History & Culture
The town of Versailles has one of the oldest post office in continuous operation in the state of Indiana. It has been in operations since 1823, just four years after the town itself was laid out. Tyson School is named after Walgreen’s founder James H. Tyson and the gymnasium was often the home court of Milan High School, who famously won the 1954 Indiana High School Basketball State Tournament and is the inspiration behind the movie Hoosiers.
Versailles is located at the junction of U.S. Route 421 and U.S. Route 50 in southeastern Indiana. U.S. 50 allows easy access to Cincinnati to the east while U.S. 421 offers access to Indianapolis to the northwest.
